If somebody is injured, they have the ability to bring a lawsuit in order to receive damages for the pain and suffering that they were forced to endure. In some minor way, this provides them with a certain level of compensation for the injuries that they received.

When deciding whether or not to support tort reform laws, consider the effect on the victims when you limit the amount they can be compensated. He or she did nothing to deserve what happened to them and yet they are being punished by such laws.

Furthermore, it gives doctors the impression that they will not be held responsible for what they do even when they are negligent. This does not have the patient's interests in mind whatsoever and only serves to reduce the extent to which they can ever be made whole after enduring pain and suffering.

While it is a difficult thing to imagine, if someone is ever involved in a medical malpractice lawsuit, they will want to receive enough to cover their costs and compensate them for their injuries. And really they deserve to be.

Consider that if a person loses a limb or perhaps even their life, they or their family members might be limited to a $250,000 reward if some of these tort reform laws are passed. This is quite unfair to a person or their family.

These laws will serve to reduce the extent to which doctors are held accountable and how much injured patients can be compensated. This seems rather unfair and needs to be at least thought about as the discussion of tort reform laws becomes more prominent.
