When you think of the purpose of a chair, you probably automatically think it is a place for a person to sit. Although this is true, a chair can be used for a multitude of purposes. One beneficial way to use a chair is for exercise.
A great exercise that you can do with a chair is called a chair stand and this type of exercise is wonderful for strengthening the thigh and abdominal muscles. You don't have to go to a gym to do this exercise; it can be done in the comfort of your home or friend's home.
There a few simple steps to perform the chair stand exercise: The first step is to find a good solid chair. The next step is to stand toward the front or the middle of the chair and lean backwards so you are in a half reclining position.
Make sure your back and shoulders are straight, and your knees are bent. Also keep in mind that your feet should be flat on the floor. Resist the urge to pick up your heels which will make the exercise easier.
Something that might be helpful while doing the chair stand exercise is to put pillows against the lower back of the chair. This will help support your back and keep the chair straight. If your back begins to hurt while doing the chair stand exercise, stop and take a break.
The next step is to bring your back forward so that your body is in an upright position. Try not to put your hands on the chair during this exercise. Your back should not be leaning against the pillows, this will make the exercise easier but you will not benefit as much from the results.
While your feet are planted on the floor, slowly come to an upright position. You should take at least 4 seconds to do this. Remember not to use your hands against the chair and keep your head and shoulder straight.
When you come to a straight standing position, then you can slowly begin to sit back down. This chair exercise should be repeated a few times. Eventually, you should try to do the standing chair exercise fifteen to twenty times in a row.
Doing the chair stand exercise is a great way to build your abdominal and thigh muscles. It is an easy, very cheap way to burn some calories. It also helps to build you into a stronger person. Enjoy!
